Box Score
RUSTON, La. – The University of Hawai'i softball team (13-17, 2-1 WAC) captured their opening Western Athletic Conference series with a 4-0 victory over Louisiana Tech (13-13, 1-2 WAC).
Stephanie Ricketts (8-5, 2-0 WAC) followed her no-hitter yesterday with another strong performance, holding La Tech hitless through the first 6-2/3 innings before giving up a single.
Dara Pagaduan went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored while
Audrey Andrade hit her first home run of the season to pace the 'Bows at the Lady Techsters Softball Complex this afternoon.
For Ricketts, it marked her sixth shut-out and 11th complete game of the season. She did not walk a batter and struck out two in the win. In the three-game series, Ricketts gave up just three hits and did not allow an earned run in 17 innings pitched.
Hawai'i took the lead in the third inning and never looked back. Andrade led off with a solo home run over the leftfield fence. It was the fourth of Andrade's career and first of her senior season. Then UH followed the homer with back-to-back doubles by Pagaduan and
Tanisha Milca--both to the left-centerfield gap. Milca's double drove in Pagaduan for the inning's second run.
Clare Warwick then was safe at first on an unsuccessful attempt to get Milca out at third. UH had runners at the corners but a wild pitch pushed Warwick to second with
Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu at the plate. Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu hit to the rightside of the infield, but Milca was cut down at the plate by the second baseman. Later, Warwick eventually scored on an error by the catcher to push UH's lead to 3-0.
In the fifth, Pagaduan struck again, lacing a double down the leftfield line. She tagged and advanced to third on a fly to rightfield by Milca and then scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Warwick to increase the 'Bows' lead to 4-0.
La Tech starter Krissi Oliver (5-9, 0-2 WAC) took the loss, giving up four runs on four hits in five innings. She walked just one while striking out six. Meghan Krieg held the 'Bows off the scoreboard for the final two innings. She gave up just one hit and struck out four.
Hawai'i finish their second roadtrip of the year with a single game against Grambling State tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
