HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i men's volleyball team swept the New Jersey Institute of Technology, 3-0 on Saturday night in a non-conference match at the Stan Sheriff Center. UH didn't drop a set in the two-match series with NJIT.
Playing out of conference and facing New Jersey Institute of Technology for the first time in school history, No. 13 UH won 3-0 both nights, getting back on the winning track.
The Warriors return to conference action next week when they face MPSF opponent UC Irvine in a two-match series beginning Thursday, March 26.
With the 30-23, 30-19, 30-23 win on Saturday night, the Warriors improve to 6-13 overall, while the Highlanders fall to 3-16.
In the first set, the Warriors fell behind early, but rallied in the middle of the set and went on to win 30-23. Dyer led the way with six kills, hitting .300, while Walker added four kills.
UH jumped out quickly in the second game and never looked back, winning 30-19. The Warriors hit .452 in the set and were led by Dyer and Walker, who each had four kills. Zemljak had three kills and 12 assists while leading the offense.
In the final set, UH led wire-to-wire taking the match with a 30-23 victory.
