LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of Hawai`i men's volleyball team lost for the second straight night against UC San Diego, 3-2, Saturday in La Jolla, Calif. The loss for UH is the second loss all-time against UCSD.
With the loss, No. 12 UH falls to 4-13 overall and 3-11 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action. No. 8 UC San Diego improves to 10-10 overall and 6-9 in conference play.
The Warriors lost the first two sets, before battling back to take the next two, but couldn't complete the comeback in the fifth set. The match scores were 21-30, 27-30, 30-23, 30-28, 13-15.
Brennon Dyer and
Sean Carney led the way for UH, each recording 19 kills. Carney added nine digs and five blocks and Dyer hit .324 for the match.
UC San Diego was led by Frank Fritsch, Jason Spangler and Gerald Houseman, who each recorded 15 kills.
The Warriors return to action Friday, March 20 when they host New Jersey Institute of Technology for a two-match series. Friday's and Saturday's matches begin at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
