STANFORD, Calif. – The fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's water polo team dropped its second straight match Friday against No. 2 Stanford, 8-6. The Rainbow Wahine (4-2) fell short in the second half as the Cardinal (1-0) out-scored UH, 4-2.
Hawai'i led after the first quarter 2-1 and were tied at the half 4-4. However, the Cardinal created a large lead for themselves in the third quarter, outscoring the Rainbow Wahine, 4-1, to take an 8-5 lead into the final period.
Although Hawai'i kept Stanford scoreless, they failed to generate more than just one goal and fell 8-6.
Leading the Rainbow Wahine was senior
Kelly Mason with two goals. For the Cardinal, Kelly Eaton, Cassie Churnside, and Pallavi Menon each contributed three goals a piece.
Hawai'i will next compete in the Stanford Invitational, Feb. 7-8. The Rainbow Wahine will kick off the tournament against USC at 11:30 a.m. PST.
