Hawai`i Falls to UAB, 2-0

Box Score

HONOLULU—The University of Hawaii softball team (1-1) fell to UAB, 2-0 on the second day of the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The Blazers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Martina Landrum started things off with a bunt single with one out. The next batter, Cameron Skates then drilled a double to the leftfield fence to score the speedy Landrum from first base. Gonzalez struck the next batter up, but then Kayla Orr laced a single up the middle to score Skates, putting UAB up, 2-0.

That was all UAB pitcher Lindsey Croft (1-1) needed as she stifled the 'Bows at the plate with a mix of pitches. Croft gave up one single, with one out in the first inning, then proceeded to stymie the UH batters the rest of the game. She fired a complete game, one-hit shut-out, walking four and striking out eight. The crafty Croft got UH to fly out for the other 13 outs.

Hawaii's Melissa Gonzalez (0-1) also threw a complete game, giving up the two runs on four hits with no walks and three strike outs.

UH will now face No. 19/17 LSU in the last game of the day.

In earlier games, No. 10/6 Oklahoma picked up a pair of five inning wins, first 18-0 over UAB, then 8-0 over LSU.
