Three Rainbow Warriors Remain in ITA Southwest Regionals

MALIBU, Calif. – The second day of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional Tennis Championships began this morning with great doubles action and concluded with the second round of singles matches.
The Rainbow Warriors went three for six in singles action today with Andreas Weber, Dennis Lajola and Philipp Eberhard leading the way. Weber defeated  Ravid Hazi from Arizona 6-0,6-1 and will continue his play tomorrow against Sebastien Fanselow from host Pepperdine. Ranked No. 43 by the ITA rankings, Lajola, was victorious against Geoff Embry from Arizona in three sets 7-5,4-6,6-3 and plays Daniel Gliner from USC tomorrow. Eberhard defeated Max Glenn of UCSB 6-7, 6-3,6-4 and plays Jaak Poldma of USC who is ranked No. 49 by the ITA rankings tomorrow.Chad Rubin in his first match of the year against Otto Sauer from Loyola Marymount was defeated 6-1,6-0. Leo Rosenberg played his second match of the singles draw and was defeated by Andre Dome of Cal Poly 6-4, 6-4. Dmytro Kovalyov  played against Matt Brooklyn of UCLA who is ranked No. 39 by the ITA rankings and put up a good fight but was defeated 6-3,6-3.
 
The Rainbow Warriors went one for three in the round of 32 with the No.5 seed team of Dennis Lajola and Jeremy Tweedt leading the charge. Lajola and Tweedt defeated Sebastian Bell and Rob Foy from Cal Poly 8-6 and advanced to the round of 16 which was also played today. Unfortunately they were upset in the round of 16 by Sam Gould and Stephen Stege from UC Irvine 8-4. The team of Weber/Rosenberg was defeated by Otto Sauer and Borja Malet from Layola Marymount in a tight match 9-8 and the team of Rubin/Llarenas fell short to Nick Northcott and Gautam Vaidyanathan from UC Irvine 8-5. 
 
The three Rainbow Warriors who won their matches today will continue their play tomorrow in the main draw of the tournament and the rest of the Warriors will all play in the consolation bracket.
