Daly Leads 'Bows To 4-0 Shutout Over Wolf Pack

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (19-22, 11-9 WAC) shut out the Nevada Wolf Pack (22-17, 9-7) 4-0 in front of a crowd of 2,721 in the series-finale at Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. Matthew Daly (5-2) had his best outing of the season, allowing no runs on just two hits while striking out seven go get the win. Derek Achelpohl (1-2) took the loss for the Pack.

Jonathan Hee led the Rainbows offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double. Vinnie Catricala add a 2-for-4 game with a run.

The Rainbows put up the first runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth as Landon Hernandez and Sean Montplaisir drove in runs on back-to-back at bats, giving UH a 2-0 edge.

Meanwhile, Daly was in complete control, taking a no-hitter through six innings. His bid for the no-hitter was stopped by Shaun Kort, who singled to centerfield to lead off the seventh inning.

Hawai`i mounted a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh to provide insurance runs. Hernandez walked, followed by a single by Montplaisir and a walk by Derek DuPree. Hee then singled through the left side, driving in both Hernandez and Montplaisir to push the Rainbow lead to 4-0.

Sam Spangler relieved Daly, retiring the final batter of the eighth inning, before giving way to Jayson Kramer. Kramer allowed a walk and a hit before closing out the shutout, 4-0.

Hawai`i now heads to Ruston, La., for a four-game series at Louisiana Tech from April 25-27.
