Rainbows Drop Back-And-Forth Affair To Wolf Pack 4-3

Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (18-22, 10-9 WAC) fell to the Nevada Wolf Pack (21-16, 8-6) 4-3 in the second game of a doubleheader at Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Cory Kahn (2-1) allowed just one hit and two runs in 3.1 innings, but took the hard-luck loss. Brock Stassi (3-0) got the win for the Pack while Mario Rivera got the save.

Jonathan Hee went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI while Brandon Haislet was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run. Greg Garcia also added a 2-for-4 game with Landon Hernandez going 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Nevada struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first to make it 1-0. The 'Bows answered with a run in the bottom of the second as Hernandez singled in a run, tying the game at 1-1. But the Wolf Pack would take the lead again in the fourth, scoring on a balk to go ahead 2-1.

But the Rainbow bats came alive in the fifth. Kevin Fujii led off with a single. Haislet then drove a double to centerfield. Fujii got caught between third and home before a throwing error by Nevada let him come in, tying the score at 2-2. Hee later drove in Haislet to give Hawai`i their first lead of the game at 3-2.

The Wolf Pack took the lead back in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs to go ahead 4-3. And that was how it would end as UH couldn't put together a rally in the final two innings.

The two teams close out their four-game series tomorrow with a single game at Les Murakami Stadium at 1:05 p.m.
