Rainbows Bounce Wolf Pack 13-3 In Seven Innings In First Game Of Doubleheader

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (18-21, 10-8 WAC) beat the Nevada Wolf Pack (21-16, 8-6) 13-3 in a seven-inning game that was called due to the conference's 10-run rule in the first game of the doubleheader at Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Nicholas Rhodes (3-4) got the complete-game victory, allowing three runs on five hits in 7.0 innings. Kyle Howe (5-1) suffered the loss for the Pack.

Brandon Haislet led the way offensively for UH, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs and two doubles. Greg Garcia 3-for-3 with a stolen base, two RBI and two runs. Landon Hernandez added a 2-for-3 game with a double, two RBI and a run while Jonathan Hee scored 2-for-2 with three runs, one RBI, a double and three walks. Kevin Macdonald also was 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run.

Hernandez got the scoring started in the second inning, driving an RBI-double down the left line after an 11-pitch at bat to make it 1-0. After UH loaded the bases, Haislet sent a double down the right line, getting the Rainbow lead to 4-0.

Nevada answered with two runs in the top of the third to cut their deficit back to 4-2. But the Hawai`i bats stayed hot in the bottom of the third, posting four runs on four base hits, giving UH a lead of 8-2.

The Wolf Pack scored a run in the fifth to cut it back to 8-3. The 'Bows responded with a three-run sixth inning as Van Doornum doubled in two runs before Garcia drove in another run, making it 11-3.

The second game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4:25 p.m.
