HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (17-21, 9-8 WAC) beat the Nevada Wolf Pack (21-15, 8-5) 10-4 in front of a crowd of 2,628 at Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Jared Alexander (5-3) allowed four runs in 7.0 innings to get the win while Rod Scurry (4-5) took the loss for the Pack.

Landon Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBI while Derek DuPree went 3-for-5 with a run. Jeffrey Van Doornum was 2-for-5 with one RBI and a run while Sean Montplaisir finished the game with two runs scored.

Nevada jumped on Alexander early in the first inning, scoring two runs on three long hits, all hitting the outfield fence, to take a quick 2-0 lead. But the Rainbows had the answer in the bottom half of the first, scoring four runs on four hits to take a 4-2 edge.

The Wolf Pack got a couple more runs in the top of the third on a two-run double by Shaun Kort, tying the score at 4-4.

The 'Bows would score single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, giving UH a 7-4 advantage. Hernandez then provided the big blast in the bottom of the seventh, sending a three-run home run to left-centerfield, making it 10-4 in favor of Hawai`i.

Alexander also settled down after the third. After inducing an inning-ending double play to end the fifth inning, Alexander put away the final six Pack batters he faced to get the victory.

The two teams continue their series with a doubleheader starting at 1:05 p.m.
