HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (13-20, 6-7 WAC) defeated the New Mexico State Aggies (15-17, 4-5) 4-2 in front of a crowd of 1,966 at Les Murakami Stadium Thursday.
Jared Alexander (4-3) allowed one run in 8.0 innings while striking out seven to get the win while Oliver Webster (1-3) took the loss for the Aggies.
Jayson Kramer picked up his fourth save of the year in relief.
Greg Garcia led he offensive attack for UH, going 2-for-3 with a run and one RBI. Vinnie Catricala added a 1-for-3 game with two RBI while Brandon Haislet went 1-for-3 with two runs.
The Rainbows started the scoring in the bottom of the second as Catricala drove in a run to make it 1-0. Joseph Scaperotta answered in the top of the third, tying the score with a home run to right.
Garcia drove in another run in the bottom of the fourth, giving the 'Bows a 2-1 edge. Garcia would then score on a single to right by pinch-hitter Alex Myers in the bottom of the seventh, extending UH's lead to 3-1.
Catricala hit a sacrifice fly to add an insurance run for the 'Bows in the bottom of the eighth. The Aggies added a run in the bottom of the ninth before Kramer closed the door, clinching UH's 4-2 victory.
The Rainbows and Aggies will play again tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
