No. 15 Hawai`i Softball Holds Off Eastern Kentucky, 1-0

Box Score

HONOLULU - The No. 15 University of Hawai`i softball team (17-5) held off Eastern Kentucky, 1-0 on the final day of the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament. In a pitcher's duel of a game, UH's Kate Robinson (7-3) earned the victory with a four-hit, complete-game, shut-out.

For Robinson, it was her fourth shut-out of the season and seventh complete game. No EKU runner was able to make it past second base in the game. Robinson struck out six and walked three in her 10th appearance of the season.

Hawai`i scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Tanisha Milca led the inning off by hustling for an infield single to short. Clare Warwick then sacrifice bunted Milca over to second to put her into scoring position. Then, Kaulana Gould came through with a clutch double to the right-centerfield gap to score Milca from second easily.

The Colonels' pitcher Stacye Toups retired the first eight batters in a row and the first 13-of-14 batters, taking a no-hitter into the bottom of the fifth. But Malamaisaua Manuma broke it up with a double drilled to left-centerfield. UH tried to mount a rally in the inning. Amanda Tauali`i drew a walk to put two runners on board. But then the Colonel's defense held strong getting two fielder's choices to cut down the lead runners and end the inning with the game still scoreless until the sixth. In all, Toups (4-3) gave up the one run on three hits, with a walk and two strike outs.

Hawai`i now advances to the tournament championship game to play No. 22 Washington.
