Bulldogs Return The Favor To Down 'Bows 5-0 In First Game Of Doubleheader

Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (9-14, 2-1 WAC) fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs (9-12, 1-2) 5-0 in the first game of a doubleheader at Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Josh Slaats (0-2) went 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on just four hits, but took the loss. Clayton Allison (1-2) went the distance to get the complete-game shutout victory.

Landon Hernandez carried the top bat for Hawai`i, going 2-for-3. Jonathan Hee added a 1-for-3 game with a walk and a double while Alex Myers had the only other hit for UH.

Fresno State ended a 22-inning scoring drought in the series, posting the first run of the game in the fifth inning.

But the Bulldog bats exploded in the top of the eighth. After Eric Wetzel hit a RBI-single to center, Steve Susdorf blasted a three-run home run to right, pushing Fresno State's lead to 5-0.

That would prove to be more than enough run support for Allison, who went the distance, allowing just four hits with one walk.

The second game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4:10 p.m.
