'Bows Lose 13-4 To No. 8 Anteaters In Second Game Of Doubleheader

IRVINE, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (7-12) fell to the No. 8 UC Irvine Anteaters (14-1) 13-4 in the second game of a doubleheader at Anteater Ballpark Saturday. Nicholas Rhodes (0-2) took the loss for UH while Christian Bergman (3-0) got the win for the Anteaters.

Vinnie Catricala went 2-for-5 with one RBI to lead UH, while Brandon Haislet was 2-for-4. Landon Hernandez added one RBI in a 1-for-2 game while Nathan Young went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

UCI jumped on Rhodes early, posting a five-run inning in the first. Hernandez drove in Van Doornum in the second inning to cut it back 5-1. The Anteaters added a couple runs in the second, making it 7-1 very early on.

The Anteaters then posted single runs in the third and fourth innings, pushing the score to 9-1. UCI added four more runs in the seventh to get it to 13-1 before Catricala drove in a run in the eighth, making it 13-2. UH would add two runs in the ninth, driven in by Young and Jonathan Hee, making the final score 13-4.

The 'Bows will now return home to face San Diego on Tuesday, March 18, before opening WAC play with a four-game series vs. Fresno State at Les Murakami Stadium from March 20-22.
