CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The No. 14 University of Hawai`i softball team (8-2) shut out Long Island (3-6), 3-0 in their fourth game of the Palm Springs Classic.
Courtney Baughman fired a three-hitter with five strike outs and no walks, while
Kate Robinson provided the offensive power with a two-run home run in the fourth.
Hawai`i scored one run in the bottom of the third. Valana Manuma got hit by a pitch to start the inning. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt executed by Katie Grimes, then advanced to third on a ground out by Richie-Anne Titcomb. Tanisha Milca then hit a grounder to first, but a fielding error allowed Manuma to score from third.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kaulana Gould led the inning off with a sharp single up the middle. Robinson drove a pitch over the leftfield fence for her fourth home run of the year.
Hawai`i will now take on the US National Softball Team in exhibition game to end the tournament. The game will start around 1:00 pm.
