Team USA Overpowers Hawai`i, 15-0

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - World softball power, Team USA, proved why they are arguably the best team on the planet in a 15-0 win over No. 14 Hawai`i in the final game of the Palm Springs Classic. Team USA is currently on a national "Bound 4 Beijing" tour as they prepare for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Pitchers Monica Abbott and Cat Osterman combined for a perfect game against the 'Bows. Both threw three innings and both had seven strike outs a piece. Only four Rainbow Wahine--Clare Warwick, Brandi Peiler, Kanani Warren, and Melissa Gonzalez--were able to put a ball in play off the pair of aces and no balls reached the outfield.

Hawai`i threw all four pitchers and everyone on the roster was ablt to play in the exhibition game. The UH pitching staff was pummelled for 15 runs on 14 hits--including home runs by Jessica Mendoza, Lovieanne Jung, and a grand slam off the bat of Lisa Fernandez. Five errors and three walks also aided Team USA en route to the rout.

Hawai`i will now head to Riverside, Calif. to play in a double header against the Highlanders on Wed., Feb. 27. First pitch is slated for 1:00 pm.
