Rainbows Run Away With 10-4 Victory Over San Francisco

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (3-1) defeated the San Francisco Dons (0-1) 10-4 in front of a crowd of 2,459 at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Matt Daly gave up four runs on two hits in 6.0 innings, striking out eight to get the win while Mitchell Bialosky took the loss for USF. Josh Slaats pitched 3.0 shutout innings to close the game and get the save.

Evan Zimny led the way for the 'Bows, going 4-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a run. Brandon Haislet added a 3-for-4 game with two doubles and two runs while Derek DuPree went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Jonathan Hee and Jeffrey Van Doornum had two-hit games while Kevin Macdonald going 1-for-4 with two RBI, two runs and a triple.

The Rainbows got out to a quick start in the first inning. Hee led off the game with a double before DuPree drove him in to make it 1-0. Van Doornum would later drive in DuPree to get the score to 2-0 after the first.

The Dons came right back in the second inning as Bobby Ethel hit a three-run triple to right, pushing USF to a 3-2 edge.

UH responded with a run in the second and another in the third to get the lead back at 4-3. The teams again traded runs in the fifth inning before the Rainbows blew it open in the sixth. Macdonald hit a two-run triple before scoring on a single by Zimny, getting the 'Bows out to a 8-4 lead.

Vinnie Catricala added an RBI-double in the seventh before Landon Hernandez blasted a long solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, making the final score 10-4.

The two teams continue their series with a doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 1:05 p.m.
