'Bows Drop Mid-Week Game At No. 6 Arizona State 9-2

TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (27-17) fell to the No. 6 Arizona State Sun Devils (33-10) 9-2 at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark Wednesday. Nicholas Rhodes (0-2) took the loss for UH while CJ Retherford (1-1) got the win for ASU.

Brandon Haislet led the way for Hawai`i, going 2-for-3 with a triple and a run. Landon Hernandez added a 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The Sun Devils showed why they were one of the top offensive teams in the country early in the game, posting a four-run first inning. Hernandez got Hawai`i back into the game in the top of the second, hitting a two-run single to cut it back to 4-2.

Arizona State added runs in the second and third innings to extend their lead to 6-2. ASU then added two more runs in the fifth, scoring one a called balk and another on a UH error.

The Rainbows weren't able to add anything else on the scoreboard while the Sund Devils added a final run in the seventh, finishing the game on the losing end, 9-2.

UH will now head to Las Cruces, N.M., for the three-game weekend series vs. New Mexico State.
