HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (27-16, 8-7 WAC) took the series over Louisiana Tech (30-16, 10-5) with a 7-2 victory in front of a crowd of 2,928 at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday.
Ian Harrington (6-5) pitched a complete-game victory, allowing just two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts. Dylan Moseley (6-4) got the loss for Louisiana Tech.
Vinnie Catricala went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run to lead Hawai`i. Justin Frash added a 2-for-4 game with one run, one double and one RBI, while Kris Sanchez was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a double.
Hawai`i got on the board in the second inning as Sanchez doubled in Brandon Haislet, giving UH a 1-0 edge. After Tech tied the score with a run in the third, Frash doubled to right field, scoring Catricala and Kevin Macdonald, on a fielding error, pushing the 'Bows to a 3-1 lead.
The Rainbows added two runs in the bottom of the fourth, making it 5-1. But the Bulldogs cut it back to a three-run game, scorng another run in the fifth.
Harrington retired seven-straight after giving up that second run, while a two-run single by Catricala in the seventh made it 7-2. Harrington allowed a hit and a walk to start the eighth, then settled, retiring the final six batters to end with the complete-game victory.
The Rainbows next head on the road for a midweek game at Arizona State, before facing New Mexico State for a three-game WAC series in Las Cruces, N.M.
