Rainbows Close Chicago State Series With 16-1 Victory

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (14-6) completed their sweep of the Chicago State Cougars (0-11) with a 16-1 win in the series-finale at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. Matt Daly (1-0) gave up one unearned run on two hits and six strikeouts in 5.0 innings to get the victory. Sean Freeman (0-1) took the loss for CSU.

Elijah Christensen played well, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Jorge Franco added a 2-for-2 game with four RBI and a double while Derek DuPree went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

The Rainbows jumped out to an early lead as Justin Frash hit a two-run double in the first. Frash later scored on a wild pitch before Landon Hernandez had a RBI-single, making it a 4-0 game after the first inning.

Hawai`i then proceded to score five runs in the second inning and three in the fourth, getting it to 12-1. After allowing the lone Cougar run in the fifth, Franco did his part, getting a pair of two-run hits in the seventh and eighth innings, pushing UH to a 16-1 final.

The 'Bows will next host the Arizona Wildcats for a three-game series starting Friday, March 9, at 6:35 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium.
