HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (21-10, 2-2 WAC) fell to the San Jose State Spartans (17-11, 2-2) 9-1 in front of a crowd of 2,788 at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday.
Ian Harrington (4-5) took the loss for UH while Scott Sobczak (3-1) pitched a complete-game victory.
Kris Sanchez led UH, going 2-for-3. Derek DuPree added a 1-for-4 game with one RBI while Kevin Macdonald came off the bench to score UH's lone run.
The Spartans jumped out to an early lead, posting a three-run first inning. From there, SJSU was able to put up two runs in the third, and single runs in the fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings, getting their total to nine.
DuPree was able to drive in Macdonald for the lone UH run in the ninth, keeping the Rainbows away from the shutout.
The two teams continue their series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium.
