Rainbows Cruise By Cougars 20-3

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (12-6) defeated the Chicago State Cougars (0-9) 20-3 in the first game of a doubleheader at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Joshua Schneider (2-1) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing one run with four strikeouts to get the victory. Mike Wieda (0-3) took the loss for the Cougars.

Jonathan Hee had a career game, going 5-for-7 with four RBI and two runs. Kevin Macdonald added a 4-for-5 game with five runs, one RBI and a triple. Elijah Christensen was 3-for-6 with two runs and one RBI while Kris Sanchez had a 2-for-4 game with a home run, a double, two runs and two RBI. Justin Frash went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double while Ryan Asato was 3-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and three runs.

The 'Bows jumped out early, scoring runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 edge. Hee and Frash would then drive in runs in the fourth to make it 4-0.

Chicago State scored a run in the top of the fifth to pull back within three at 4-1. But UH then exploded with a five-run inning in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a two-run single by Hee, making it 9-1.

Hawai`i added six runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth en route to their 20-3 victory.

The second game of the doubleheader followed approximately 30 minutes after the first one ended.
