Warriors Win Fifth Straight With Sweep Of Tritons

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 13th ranked University of Hawai`i men's volleyball team extended its late-season win streak to five with a straight-set victory at unranked UC San Diego tonight at the RIMAC Arena.

Hawai`i improves to 8-13 overall and 6-11 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while UC San Diego falls to 5-18 and 2-15. UH runs its all-time record against UCSD to 36-0.

UCSD jumped out to an 23-20 lead in the first set. UH then reeled off six-straight points and finally finished off the first set, 30-26.

It was all Warriors after that. In the second, a Triton attack error gave UH a 3-2 lead which they extended to 10-6. Hawai`i streaked to a 30-18 win.

The third set saw UH sprint out to an 11-6 lead then won 10 of the next 13 points en route to a 30-15 decision.

Lauri Hakala led the way for the Warriors with a match-high 13 kills and hit a sizzling .765 hitting percentage on 17 swings with no errors. As a team, UH hit .479 iwth 21 digs and 17.0 team blocks. Dio Dante put up a solid wall in front recording a match-best 11 blocks.

UC San Diego was led by Will Ehrman's 10 kills, while the Tritons were limited to a mere .082 hitting percentage collectively.

The two teams meet again Friday night at 7:00 p.m. PST.
