'Bows Take Out Chicago State 7-2

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (11-6) defeated the Chicago State Cougars (0-8) 7-2 in front of a crowd of 2,200 at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Jayson Kramer (2-0) pitched 4.1 innings of relief, striking out seven with no runs on two hits to get the victory. Sean Murphy took the loss for CSU.

Kris Sanchez led the way for the 'Bows, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a double. Brandon Haislet added a 1-for-3 game with three runs, two RBI and a triple whie Justin Frash went 2-for-4 with two runs. Jonathan Hee also added a 2-for-5 game with two runs.

Hawai`i got on the board in the second inning as Sanchez singled in Haislet to make it 1-0. Haislet would then hit a two-run triple in the third, before scoring again on another Sanchez single, making it 4-0.

The Cougars crawled back into it, scoring runs in the fourth and fifth innings, cutting it back to 4-2. But Sanchez again answered the call in the bottom of the fifth, hitting a RBI-double, scoring Hee, to make it 5-2.

The Rainbows then blew it open in the seventh. Frash started by scoring on a CSU error, before Kevin Macdonald drove in Haislet, making the final 7-2.

The two teams continue their series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1:05 p.m. UH will start Joshua Schneider and Mark Rodrigues in the nine and seven inning games, respectively.
