Sanchez Hits Grand Slam In Rainbows' 13-1 Win Over Pacific

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (5-2) defeated the Pacific Tigers (2-3) 13-1 in front of a crowd of 2,284 at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Ian Harrington (2-1) got the win, allowing one run on four hits with a career-high nine strikeouts in 7.0 innings. David Rowse (0-2) took the loss for UOP.

Kris Sanchez continued on his hot start to the 2007 season, going 2-for-4 with a home run and six RBI. Nathan Young added a 3-for-4 game with four RBI, two runs and a double, while Justin Frash went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and one RBI. Landon Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two runs and a double, with Jorge Franco adding a 1-for-1 game with one RBI, three runs, a triple and two stolen bases.

UH got the offense going in the bottom of the third. Franco started by tripling in Hernandez, then scoring on a RBI-single by Young. After Frash and Brandon Haislet both walked to load the bases, Sanchez hit a line-drive home run to right, making it 6-0. His grand slam marked the 27th grand slam in UH history.

After allowing a run to the Tigers in the top of the fourth, Hawai`i added two more in the bottom of the inning on a single by Young. The 'Bows would go on to score three in the sixth, and single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, making the final 13-1.

The two teams continue the series tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium. Mark Rodrigues will pitch for UH against UOP's Joey Centanni.
