Rainbows Fall To No. 12 Wichita State 7-1

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (9-4) fell to the No. 12 Wichita State Shockers (6-2) 7-1 in front of a crowd of 2,788 at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Ian Harrington (2-3) pitched well, allowing five runs, with just three earned, in 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts, but took the loss. Bob Musgrave (2-0) took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, earning the victory.

Landon Hernandez broke up the no-hitter with a RBI-double. Derek DuPree got the only other UH hit in a pinch-hit appearance.

The Shockers got on the board first in the fifth inning, scoring twice on an error by the Rainbows. Wichita State would add a run in the sixth, then broke it open in the seventh with three runs, highlighted by a two-run homer by Derek Schermerhorn, getting it to 6-0.

Hawai`i was finally able to get to Musgrave in the eighth. Evan Zimny walked before Hernandez drove him in with a line drive to right-center. The Shockers added a run in the ninth, making the final 7-1.

The two teams continue their series tomorrow with Mark Rodrigues pitching against WSU All-American Aaron Shafer.
