Softball Takes Doubleheader, Downs Utah, 3-1

LAS VEGAS - Courtney Baughman (2-0)tossed a three hit complete game over Utah, 3-1. Three solo home runs by Kaulana Gould, Clare Warwick, and Tyleen Tausaga accounted for UH's three runs. It was the second game of the day for the Rainbow Wahine who are in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic held at the Stephanie Lynn Craig Softball Complex in Las Vegas.

Hawai`i's Gould broke a scoreless game in the top of the fourth. She drilled a lead-off home run over the rightfield fence. For Gould, it was her second home run of the day. Earlier, against Cal State Northridge she tattooed a grand slam over the rightfield fence.

In the top of the sixth, it was Warwick's turn to hit a lead-off homer of her own to leftfield. Then after an out, Tausaga hit her solo home run to centerfield to extend UH's lead to 3-0.

Utah answered in the bottom of half of the sixth. Hailey Davenport whacked a two-out home run way over the centerfield fence to bring the Utah to 3-1. But Baughman did't allow another Ute on base for the rest of the game.

For Utah, Meghan Dyer took the loss, throwing 5.1 innings. She gave up five hits, including the three home runs, but had nine strike outs. Karina Cannon closed the game, retiring all five batters she faced.

Hawai`i will play one more game in Las Vegas tomorrow against Utah State at 11:30 am at the Eller Media Stadium.
