HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (7-2) completed the sweep over the Pacific Tigers (2-5) with a 8-3 victory in front of a crowd of 2,385 at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday.
Jayson Kramer came on in relief to get the win while Hunter Carnevale (1-1) took the loss for Pacific.
Kris Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in the game. It was Sanchez's third-consecutive game with a home run as the senior drove in nine runs during the series. He is currently batting .543 with 19 RBI, eight runs, six doubles one triple and three home runs on the season.
Evan Zimny went 3-for-5 with two RBI, a double and a run, while Landon Hernandez ended up 3-for-4 with one RBI. Nathan Young added a 2-for-5 game with a run. Elijah Christensen was 1-for-3 with two runs.
Hawai`i got on the board early in the second inning as Sanchez scored on a RBI-single by Hernandez, giving UH the 1-0 edge. The 'Bows added on in the second, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Haislet, an error and a RBI-double by Zimny.
Pacific managed an unearned run in the top of the fifth to cut it back to 4-1, and threatened to cut further in. But the UH defense came through, using a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning. The Rainbows took advantage in the bottom of the fifth, scoring runs on Sanchez's homer and a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Asato, making it 6-1. Both teams put up two runs in the sixth to make the score 8-3.
Hawai`i will next go on the road for a three-game series at UC Santa Barbara from Feb. 16-18.
