DePaul Shuts Out Hawai`i, 3-0

HONOLULU - The Rainbow Wahine dropped their first game of the season to DePaul, 3-0 on the third day of the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Hawai`i Paradise Classic. Hawai`i will now play the winner of the 8:00 am (No.15 Nebraska vs. No.24 Auburn game) for third place at 10:00 am tomorrow.

DePaul's Traci Adix threw the complete game shut-out over the Rainbow Wahine. It was her second victory of the day, after defeating the No.24 Auburn Tigers, 5-4 in eight innings. Against UH, Adix scattered four hits and struck out seven while walking none.

Adix got major offensive support in the top of the third, when Kate Sheaks and Sandy Vojik hit back-to-back home runs off Hawai`i pitcher, Justine Smethurst. In the fifth, the Blue Demons added another run as Amber Patton scored on a passed ball, extending their lead to 3-0.

Smethurst took her first loss of the season. She threw 5.0 innings, giving up three runs on four hits with one walk. Jessica Morton came in relief and finished the game with two scoreless innings.

On offense, Tyleen Tausaga got three of Hawai`i's four hits in the game. She went 3-for-3 on the game. Tanisha Milca got the only other hit for UH.
