HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (6-2) held on to a victory over the Pacific Tigers (2-4) 4-3 in front of a crowd of 2,063 at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Mark Rodrigues (3-0) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing no runs on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts to get the win. Joey Centanni (0-1) took the loss for UOP. Kris Sanchez hit his second home run in as many games, going 2-for-5 with a two-run shot in the third. Landon Hernandez added a 3-for-5 game with a double while Vinnie Catricala went 2-for-4 with a run.

Hawai`i threatened early, but left two runners on in the first and the bases loaded in the second without putting any runs on the board. UH did, however, score in the third inning as Sanchez hit his home run to right, bringing in two to put the 'Bows ahead 2-0.

Catricala scored in the sixth on an error befor Haislet brought in a run on a bases loaded hit by pitch, giving the Rainbows a 4-0 lead. But UH was again not able to capatilize on the opportunity, leaving the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings, keeping their edge at just four runs.

The Tigers started to mount a comeback in the eighth. After three straight singles loaded the bases, UOP scored their first run on a sacrifice fly. Zach Chamberlin and Brett Manning both drove in runs to cut the deficit to 4-3 with just one out in the inning. But that was when Davis battled back, striking out the final two batters to get UH out of the inning. He then shut the door completely in the ninth, striking out all three batters he faced to save the 4-3 win.

The two teams will close out their series tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. Joshua Schneider will pitch for UH against UOP's Hunter Carnevale.
