Box Score

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The No. 29 University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (40-13, 17-6 WAC) finished the regular season with a win over the San Jose State Spartans (33-24, 12-12) 3-1 at Municipal Stadium Sunday. Ian Harrington (7-3) allowed just one run on five hits with seven strikeouts and a walk to get the victory. Tyler Davis pitched 2.0 perfect innings to collect his third save of the year while Josh Amberson (6-4) took the loss for the Spartans.

Justin Frash went 1-for-3 with a RBI, a run and a double. Luis Avila added a 1-for-4 game with a RBI while Jonathan Hee went 1-for-3 with a run.

Avila started the `Bows off in the first inning, driving in Frash to give UH a 1-0 edge. Frash drew a bases-loaded walk in the third to bring in the Rainbows' second run of the game, scored by Hee, to make it 2-0. UH put up another run in the fourth as Derek DuPree drove in Jorge Franco to push their edge to 3-0.

But Hawai`i had missed opportunities to add to their advantage while the Spartans were able to put up their first earned run of the series in the bottom of the sixth, cutting it back to 3-1. Harrington was able to hold SJSU off the scoreboard in the seventh with Davis shutting down the Spartan offense in the final two innings to close out the victory.

With Fresno State's 7-4 win at Sacramento State today, the Rainbows were forced to settle for a second place finish in the WAC regular season standings. UH will play the opener of the WAC Tournament on Thursday, May 25, at 11 a.m. (8 a.m. HST) against Louisiana Tech at Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif.
