PALO ALTO, Calif. - No. 3 Hawai`i swept past unranked Stanford tonight 30-20, 30-19, 30-21 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at the Burnham Pavilion.
Jose Delgado led the Warriors recording a match-high 12 kills as UH hit .350 collectively to the Cardinal's .074. Hawai`i improved to 18-4 overall, winning its 14th straight match, and moving to 14-3 in the MPSF. Stanford fell to 4-19 and 2-15.
Delgado led the UH attack in Game 1 pounding down six kills as the Warriors hit a blistering .542. With the scored tied at five, UH went on a 5-0 run to pull ahead for good and cruise to a 30-20 win.
UH continued its dominance in Game 2 sprinting out to leads of 10-4 and 20-12, winning going away, 30-19.
Head coach Mike Wilton got his bench involved in Game 3, as Sean Carney took the setting chores from starter Brian Beckwith as the Warriors rolled, 30-21.
Two big keys for the Warriors tonight was the blocking and serving advantages. UH outblocked Stanford 11.0 to 3.5 and recorded a season-high 11 aces to the Cardinal's two.
The two teams finish off its brief two-match series Thursday with a 5:00 p.m. HST first serve.
