Rainbows Drop Heartbreaker To Louisiana Tech, 5-4, In WAC Play

Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (18-8, 0-2 WAC) fell to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (11-10, 2-0) 5-4 in the second game of the series at Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. Darrell Fisherbaugh (2-1) took the loss while Alan Knotts (2-2) got the win for the Bulldogs.

Esteban Lopez went 2-for-4 with a run while Derek DuPree added a 2-for-3 game. Joseph Spiers had a 1-for-5 game with one RBI and a run. Ian Harrington pitched well, giving up just two earned runs with five strikeouts in 7.0 innings, but got the no-decision.

Hawai`i looked like they were on their way to victory in the first inning, as Robbie Wilder, Spiers and Jorge Franco all scored to make the score 3-0.

Harrington kept Tech off the scoreboard for five innings, as he retired 12 batters in a row between the second and sixth innings. But the Bulldog bats did come alive. In the sixth inning, LTU scored two to cut the deficit to 3-2. Then, after a UH run in the bottom of the sixth, Louisiana Tech took their first lead in the eighth, scoring three runs to go up 5-4.

Hawai`i had a chance in the bottom of the ninth, placing two runners on base with just one out. But UH squandered the opportunity, ending the game with a disappointing 5-4 defeat.

The loss clinched UH's first lost series of the season. Hawai`i will look to salvage a game out of the series tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium.
