Rainbows Get Second-Straight Road Win At LMU, 11-2

Box Score

LOS ANGELES - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (8-2) had an offensive explosion, defeating the Loyola Marymount Lions 11-2 at Page Stadium Saturday. Ian Harrington (1-1) got the win, allowing just one earned run in 6.2 innings while Daniel Macias (0-3) took the loss for LMU.

Justin Frash came up just short of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with two singles, a triple and a home run. He also had four RBI and four runs in the game. Luis Avila added a 3-for-5 game with two runs while Esteban Lopez was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and one RBI.

The Rainbows got all the runs they needed in the first inning as Jonathan Hee and Jorge Franco hit back-to-back RBI singles before Hee scored on a Lion error, putting the 'Bows ahead 3-0.

LMU got on the board in the fourth on a UH error. Frash then smacked the team's first home run of the season, a two-run blast to right-center, making it 5-1. Lopez then scored in the sixth before Frash showed his power again in the seventh, whacking a triple to centerfield before scoring on a throwing error, pushing the Rainbow lead to 7-1.

The Lions scored their second run in the bottom of the seventh, but that would be all for them as Richard Olsen came in relief and pitched 2.1 innings, giving up just one hit and no runs. UH added four runs in the ninth to earn the 11-2 victory.

The two wins at LMU marked the first time UH won their first two road games of the season since 1996. The 'Bows will go for the series sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. Pacific (11 a.m. in Hawai`i). Mark Rodrigues will start for the 'Bows against LMU's Roberto Torres.
