Wright Pitches One-Hitter In Rainbow's 3-1 Victory Over Loyola Marymount

Box Score

LOS ANGELES - Steven Wright pitched a complete-game one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks, giving up just one, unearned run, leading the University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (7-2) to a 3-1 victory over Loyola Marymount (2-6) at Page Stadium Friday. Brad Meyers (0-2) took the loss.

Wright becomes the first Rainbow to throw a one-hitter since Andrew McNally on March 11, 1993, against Washington State, and just the sixth Rainbow to pitch a one-hitter in a nine inning game. The junior pushed his record to 2-0 while dropping his ERA to 1.17.

Robbie Wilder had his second-straight 4-for-5 game, while adding two runs and a triple. Jonathan Hee was 2-for-4 with a double and a run while Joseph Spiers also added a 2-for-4 game.

LMU scored in the bottom of the first on an error. But UH responded quickly as Esteban Lopez drove in Hee in the second inning, tying the score. Luis Avila drove in Wilder in the third to give the 'Bows the lead.

Hawai`i scored again in the fifth as Derek DuPree drove in Wilder. And that would be all that Wright needed for the game, as he retired the final 16 batters he faced, striking out five of the last seven batters, preserving the 3-1 UH victory.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow with Ian Harrington going against LMU's Daniel Macias at 11 a.m.
