Box Score
WAIPAHU, HI -- Hawai`i got back on the winning track with a 3-0 win over Eastern Michigan in the consolation match of the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Soccer Classic at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine snapped its two-match losing streak and improved to 2-2 with the win.
The Rainbow Wahine offense, shutout in its last two losses, rebounded in a big way by exploding for three goals in a 2:15 span late in the first half. Junior midfielder Adria Campbell assisted on all three goals, tying a single-match record for assists held by three other Rainbow Wahine. Senior striker Natasha Kai scored two of the goals, notching her 16th career multiple-goal match.
Hawai`i got on the board at the 40:13 mark when Kai received a through ball from Campbell on the left side of the box and beat the goalie for an open net shot. The Campbell to Kai connection occurred again at the 41:52 mark, when Kai beat the EMU (1-3-0) defense for another easy score. Just 36 seconds later Campbell fired a shot from 30 yards out that bounced off the crossbar and Koren Takeyama cleaned it up for UH's third score in less than three minutes.
UH out-shot the Eagles 21-10 and posted its first shutout of the season, with goalkeepers Kori Lu and Mahie Atay each seeing action.
The Rainbow Wahine next head to the road where they will face Weber State on Sept. 10 in the 49er Classic hosted by Long Beach State. The match begins at 11 a.m. PST.
