Box Score

RUSTON, La. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (28-27, 15-14 WAC) defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (13-39, 9-20) 7-4 at J.C. Love Field Saturday. Richard Olsen pitched 2.2 hitless innings to get his first win of the year while Steve Alverson (2-3) got the loss for Tech.

Schafer Magana led the way, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base. Esteban Lopez had a 2-for-5 game with a run and the game-winning RBI while Joseph Spiers went 2-for-4.

Louisiana Tech got on the scoreboard first, literally, as Richard Heard hit a three-run home run that hit the top of the scoreboard in right field, putting the Bulldogs ahead 3-0.

Hawai`i finally got to Tech starter Matt Lacy in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs on a pair of two-run homers, by Magana and Adam Roberts, giving UH the 4-3 lead.

The Bulldogs came back to tie the score in the bottom of the seventh. But Hawai`i came up big in the top of the ninth as Lopez and Magana hit back-to-back RBI-singles to put the `Bows ahead 6-4. Inouye then walked in another run in the inning, pushing the Rainbow advantage to 7-4.

The Rainbows and Bulldogs will play again tomorrow at 1 p.m. Central time (10 a.m. in Hawai`i) at J.C. Love Field. It will be the final game of the season for both teams, marking the last game for UH's five seniors, Ricky Bauer, Stephen Bryant, Gregory Kish, Magana and Nathan Thurber.
