HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (25-25, 12-12 WAC) fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs (27-26, 13-11) 7-3 in front of a crowd of 3,383 on senior day at Les Murakami Stadium Saturday.
Colby Summer (2-5) took the loss while Eddie Romero (6-4) got the win for the Bulldogs.
Nathan Thurber had a big day on his last game at Les Murakami Stadium, going 2-for-5 with one RBI. Isaac Omura added a 1-for-4 game with a run and a double while Daniel Magana went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
The Bulldogs opened the game with two runs in the first and another in the second before Thurber drove in Omura to cut it back to 3-1. Fresno State then exploded for three more in the fourth to push their lead to 6-1.
The Rainbows started to make a run at it in the seventh as Gregory Kish sacrificed in a run to cut it to 6-2. Derek DuPree then drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth to get it to 6-3. But the 'Bows failed to capitilize on another opportunity, leaving the bases loaded in the eighth.
Fresno State would score an insurance run in the ninth, making the final 7-3.
The 'Bows will now head to the road for six games starting with a three-game series at Rice, May 20-22.
Thurber, Magana, Kish, Ricky Bauer and Stephen Bryant were all honored after the game as they all played their last games at the Les Murakami Stadium as Rainbows.
