'Bows Streak Snapped At Seven With 8-4 Loss To Fresno State

Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (25-24, 12-11 WAC) ended their seven-game winning streak with a 8-4 loss to the Fresno State Bulldogs (26-26, 12-11) in front of a crowd of 4,221 at Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Justin Costi (2-5) took the loss for the 'Bows while Doug Fister (6-5) got the win for Fresno State. Rudy Quinonez also came in to pick up his fifth save of the year.

Erik Ammon led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one RBI and two walks. Nathan Thurber added a 2-for-4 game with a run while Isaac Omura went 1-for-3 with a run.

The Bulldogs took an early lead, posting a four-run third inning on run-scoring hits by Nick Moresi, Beau Mills and Chase Moore and on a wild pitch.

Hawai`i came back in the bottom of the fourth as Schafer Magana and Matthew Inouye both drove in runs before Thurber scored on a Bulldog error, cutting their deficit to 4-3.

But the Dogs added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to push their lead to 7-3. The 'Bows showed life in the seventh as Ammon hit a RBI-single to cut it to 7-4. But that would be it as Quinonez not only came in to shut down UH in the final 2.1 innings, but also got a RBI-single in the top of the ninth, making the final 8-4.

The two teams will close out their series tomorrow on senior day at Les Murakami Stadium. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. with a ceremony to honor the five outgoing seniors following the game.
