Rainbows Give Up Five Late Runs To Fall 7-4 At San Francisco

Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO - The University of Hawai`i (15-18) fell to the San Francisco Dons (22-9) 7-4 at Benedetti Diamond Wednesday. Guy McDowell (2-3) took the loss for the Rainbows while Aaron Poreda (1-0) got the win. Garrett Ozar came in late to get the save for USF.

Matthew Inouye came up with a big day, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and a stolen base. Isaac Omura added a 2-for-5 game with two RBI while Joseph Spiers went 2-for-5 with a triple and a run. Adam Roberts also went 2-for-5 with a double and a run.

The Rainbows opened the game with three-consecutive hits, the third a single by Omura that scored Spiers, putting them up 1-0. They were then able to bring in two more runs in the second as Erik Ammon scored before Omura drove in Roberts, moving their lead to 3-0.

The Dons came back with two runs on two UH errors in the second, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

That is how it stayed until the eighth inning, as USF came up with a five-run inning, putting the Dons up 7-3. The Rainbows had their chance in the ninth, as Inouye hit a solo homer with two outs before UH loaded the bases. But Ozar came in and recorded the final out for the Dons on a pop up, finishing the game at 7-4.

The 'Bows will drive up to Reno for a three-game series at Nevada, starting Friday, April 8.
