Rainbows Drop Mid-Week Game At California, 11-0

BERKELEY, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (18-23) fell to the California Golden Bears (25-16) 11-0 at Evans Diamond Wednesday. Ricky Bauer (3-3) took the loss while Cal's Joe Todoroff (4-2) got the win.

Esteban Lopez, Erik Ammon, Joseph Spiers and Jonathon Hee each had a single. Richard Olsen pitched well, giving up just one run on two hits in 4.0 innings with three strikeouts.

Cal's Brennan Boesch hit a RBI-single in the bottom of the first to start off the scoring. The Bears would then score two in the second and one in the fourth on a solo home run by Allen Craig, pushing their lead to 4-0.

The 'Bows had their shot in the top of the sixth, loading the bases with just one out. But they couldn't capitalize, playing into two ground outs, ending the inning still down 4-0.

The Bears then scored one in the seventh before blowing it open in the eighth, scoring six runs, including a grand slam by Matt Einspahr, to take the game 11-0.

Hawai`i will now drive down to San Jose for a three-game WAC series with the San Jose State Spartans at Blethen Field, starting Friday, April 22, at 2 p.m.
