HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (13-17, 1-6 WAC) fell to the San Jose State Spartans (16-9-1, 6-1) 6-2 in the first game of a doubleheader at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday.
Stephen Bryant (4-2) took the loss while SJSU's Shane Brechmann (1-0) came on in relief for the win.
Joseph Spiers came off a small slump, going 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Isaac Omura added a 2-for-4 game with one RBI and a double. Robbie Wilder came in with a 1-for-4 game with a run.
The Spartans opened the scoring with a run in the third. But UH quickly responded as Omura hit a double that scored Spiers before Matthew Inouye sacrifice flied in Wilder, giving the Rainbows the lead at 2-1 after three innings.
San Jose State scored a run in the fourth to tie it up. Then they came up with their big inning in the seventh, scoring three runs, as Anthony Contreras hit a two-run single before scoring on a balk, to make it 5-2.
SJSU added another run in the ninth, again on a balk, making the final score 6-2.
The second game of the doubleheader is underway.
