Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (18-22, 5-10 WAC) fell to the No. 15 Rice Owls (26-13, 8-7) 3-1 in front of a crowd of 2,677 at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. Justin Costi (1-4) took the loss for the Rainbows. Joe Savery (4-4) got the win while Cole St. Clair got the save.

Nathan Thurber went 2-for-3 while Daniel Magana had a 2-for-5 game. Joseph Spiers added a 1-for-5 game with a run while Matthew Inouye ended up 1-for-3.

Hawai`i had an opportunity in the bottom of the second, but left the bases loaded to keep the game scoreless. It stayed that way until the fifth as the Owls scored an unearned run, to take a 1-0 lead. The Rainbows came right back as Rocky Russo put down a sacrifice bunt that scored Spiers to tie at one after five innings.

Rice came right back, scoring two in the sixth to get a 3-1 edge. UH had their chances throughout but ended up leaving 10 total runners on base.

The Rainbows will now head on the road for a mid-week game at California on Wednesday, April 17, before their three-game series at San Jose State.
