Rainbows Take First Road Win Of The Season, 8-7 At Nevada

RENO, Nev. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (16-20, 4-8 WAC) picked up their first road win of the year, and only their second ever at Peccole Park, with an 8-7 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack (17-12, 6-3) in front of a crowd of 1,156 Sunday. Darrell Fisherbaugh pitched 2.0 hitless innings with two strikeouts to get the win. Wesley Dorsett took the loss for Nevada.

Isaac Omura led the way, going 3-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBI, including the game-winner. Esteban Lopez had a 2-for-4 game with a double, two runs and one RBI while Adam Roberts came up with a 2-for-4 game with two doubles, one RBI and one run. Derek Dupree also had a two-hit game, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

The Rainbows started the scoring in the top of the third, as Dupree and Omura hit back-to-back RBI singles, giving UH a 2-0 lead. The Pack answered right back in the bottom of the inning as Brett Hayes hit a two-run homer to tie it at two.

Nevada then took the lead at 3-2 with a run in the fourth, before UH scored three in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a two-run homer by Nathan Thurber, making it 5-3.

The Pack cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth, only to see the 'Bows get their lead back to two runs with a RBI-single by Lopez in the top of the sixth.

Hawai`i got another run in the eighth on a RBI-double by Roberts, but saw their lead evaporate as the Wolf Pack scored three in the bottom of the eighth to tie it at seven.

In the top of the ninth, Joseph Spiers was hit by a pitch before being sacrificed to second by Dupree, setting up Omura's RBI-single up the middle, which proved to be the game-winner.

Hawai`i now heads back to Honolulu, where they will play HPU for a mid-week game on Wednesday, April 13, at the Les Murakami Stadium, before hosting Rice for a three-game series from Friday through Sunday.
