SEATTLE - The Hawai'i women's indoor track and field season ended with the distance medley relay team failing to qualify for the NCAA Championships. However the team posted the best time in school history (indoor and outdoor) by a considerable margin.
The team was forced to run a "solo" race, after two other teams withdrew at the last moment. After Idaho and Portland pulled their teams, the Rainbow Wahine squad was left to run alone and posted a time of 11:37.59 missing the NCAA Standard which was 11:28.
The past two situations surrounding the UH distance medley relay team have been very disappointing for them. At the WAC Championships last week, an officiating error cost the team a chance to qualify on a faster course.
Sophomore Dana Buchanan led off the 1200m in 3:32, followed by Tasha Monroe in the 400m leg (54.3), Kelly Young in the 800m (2:09) and Sabrina Reeve in the 1600m anchor (5:01).
"The girls showed great class in dealing with the challenge and in the efforts put forth in Seattle," associate coach Andy McInnis said. "They are no doubt relieved it's all over and are look forward to great races and challenges outdoors."
