FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (13-16, 1-5 WAC) fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs (16-14, 3-0 WAC) 5-3 in front of a crowd of 1,858 at Pete Beiden Field on Easter Sunday.
Justin Costi (1-3) took the loss for UH while Doug Fister (4-2) got the win for Fresno State. Bulldog Rudy Quinonez pitched 1.0 inning to get a save.
Daniel Magana went 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Isaac Omura added a 1-for-3 game with a run and one RBI. Costi pitched well, giving up just three earned runs with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
Hawai`i jumped on the board first as Magana hit a two-run single to right field in the top of the fourth, putting UH up 2-0.
Fresno State answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie it at two. But Omura got the lead back for the 'Bows, hitting an opposite field RBI-single, pushing Hawai`i to a 3-2 edge.
The Bulldogs then tied it with a run in the bottom of the sixth, before picking up two more runs in the seventh to get the 5-3 win.
The Rainbows will drive up to Sacramento before flying home to Honolulu on Monday morning. They will host the San Jose State Spartans for a three-game WAC series starting Friday, April 1, at 6:35 p.m.
