Box Score

FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (13-14, 1-3 WAC) fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs (15-15, 1-0) 6-3 in front of a crowd of 1,945 at Pete Beiden Field Friday. Steven Wright (3-3) took the loss for Hawai`i while Matt Garza (2-3) got the win for the Bulldogs. Ryan Penn came in to get his first save of the year.

Daniel Magana had a big game for the 'Bows, going 3-for-4 with a run. Adam Roberts came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with a run and one RBI. Erik Ammon was 1-for-4 with two RBI while Isaac Omura went 1-for-4 with a run and a double.

Ricky Bauer pitched 3.0 innings in relief, giving up just one hit and one walk.

The Bulldogs got on the board early, as Nick Moresi hit a run-scoring double to right-center, putting Fresno State up 1-0. They then added a four-run second inning to take a quick 5-0 advantage.

Fresno State got another run in the third to take a six-run edge. That was more than enough for Garza, who took a no-hitter into the fifth, finishing up with 11 strikeouts in 7.0 innings with just four hits and two runs.

But Hawai`i finally came alive in the top of the seventh as Ammon hit a two-run single to right, driving in Roberts and Magana, to cut the deficit to 6-2.

The Rainbows got another run in the eighth as Roberts drove in Omura, cutting it back to 6-3. Magana led off the ninth with a hit, but Fresno State firstbaseman came up with a big, unassisted double play, ending the Rainbow threat and giving the Bulldogs the 6-3 win.
