'Bows Drop 3-2 Contest To UC Davis In FHT Rainbow Baseball Tournament

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (7-7, 0-2 Tournament) fell to the UC Davis Aggies (7-7, 1-1 Tournament) 3-2 on the second day of the First Hawaii Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament Wednesday night at Les Murakami Stadium. Dean Turner took the loss while Eddie Gamboa got the win for UC Davis. The attendance for the second day of the tournament was 2,232.

Rocky Russo went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Matthew Inouye was 1-for-4 with one RBI and a run while Daniel Magana went 1-for-2 with a run.

Myles Ioane pitched well in his first collegiate start, giving up just one run on four hits in 4.0 innings, striking out four.

The Aggies started it off with runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead. Hawai`i then answered in the sixth. Magana started it off with a single to left. After moving over on a ground ball, Inouye singled him in to cut it to 2-1. Russo then hit a double to right center, driving in Inouye, tying the game at two.

But UC Davis had the answer in the seventh as Daniel Descalso drove in what proved to be the game-winner, making the final 3-2.

Earlier in the day, Louisiana-Lafayette defeated South Florida 4-1 while Wichita State beat Sacramento State 9-3. Louisiana-Lafayette will play Sacrmenot State in the 10:30 a.m. game followed by Wichita State and UC Davis at 2:30 p.m. The Rainbows will then take on South Florida in the 6:35 p.m. game.
