Cougars Sweep Warriors

PROVO, Utah - The third ranked Hawai`i Warriors had their worst hitting night of the season and it resulted in a three-game sweep by No. 6 Brigham Young in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Smith Fieldhouse.

The Warriors (13-5, 9-4 MPSF) hit a collective .082 with 30 kills, 23 hitting errors, on 85 swings. BYU, on the other hand, posted a .296 hitting percentage as a team.

The Cougars (13-7, 8-5 MPSF) outplayed UH in every facet of the game --outhit (.296 to .082), out dug (25 to 19), and out blocked (17 to 10.5). BYU also added four service errors to none for UH.

Dio Dante was the only bright spot for UH as the 6-8 middle blocker hit .500 with six kills on 12 swings and no errors.

The usual UH hitting stars struggled. Pedro Azenha hit a mere .115 on 26 swings, while Matt Bender topped out at .111 on 18 attempts.

The Cougars were led by Ivan Perez who put down a match-high 18 kills while posting a .400 hitting percentage.

The two teams meet again Saturday night at Smith Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. (4 p.m. HST) first serve.
