SEATTLE, Wash. - After a poor start the day before at the Husky Classic, Novelle Murray and Meghan Weaver carried the Hawai'i women's track and field team on their backs in the Washington Open #3 on Sunday at the University of Washington.

Murray wheeled out 16.16 meters for second in the Weight Throw and a lifetime-best in the Shot Put for third place. Weaver erupted to win the Shot Put with a school record of 13.55 meters and grabbed third in the Weight event behind Murray.

"We were half asleep for Saturday's big meet and had to prove we have the goods for the WAC Championships in two weeks," Murray said. "We learned a tough lesson and corrected it."

The Washington Open Indoor Track & Field meet was the largest indoor event ever hosted by the school (1500 athletes). Other Hawai`i athletes to climb the podium with first place finishes were Tasha Monroe (400m) and Kelly Young (1000m).

Dana Buchanan (1000m) and Ashley Monfort (400m) finished second in their respective events while Sharlene Carillo (1000m) and Patricia Gauthier (Pole Vault / Long Jump) both sported third place finishes. Gauthier became the first UH athlete to break the height of 12 feet in Vault.

The Rainbow Wahine return home this weekend for one more All-Comers Meet (Feb. 19) before heading to the WAC Indoor Championships in Boise, Idaho.
